The annual districtwide Name that Book competition was hosted at the Waller High School Auditorium on April 7. The team from Waller Junior High School won the junior high portion of the contest. Waller ISD Names Annual Districtwide Name that Book Competition Winners

Waller ISD held the 4th annual districtwide Name that Book competition on Friday, April 7 in the Waller High School Auditorium. Students from both of the Waller ISD junior high schools and the five elementary schools competed in ten rounds of clues from 30 book titles to win the competition. After the book quote was announced, team members worked together to agree on an answer using their memory to recall their readings. The junior high competition saw six intelligent teams face-off, followed by the competition of ten brilliant elementary teams.
After the winners were declared, students enjoyed a Chick-fil-A lunch and then attended the awards ceremony. Medals and trophies were handed out to reward students for their dedication to the competition. The winning elementary team scoring an impressive 22 questions out of 30 correct was from E. Turlington Elementary School and coached by 4th grade teacher Christina Conklin made up of team members Barrett Schmidt, Rachelle Escobar, Kori Paliwoda, Claire Stewart, Mariah Servin, and Joey Camann. The second place elementary team was also from E. Turlington Elementary School and coached by Christina Conklin. This team scored an outstanding 19/30 correct and consisted of team members Luke Sellers, Lyndsey Nichols, Isabelle Means, Brenlee Klefstad, Rebecca Husfeld, and Kylie York. The first place junior high team was coached by Waller Junior High Librarian Lynn Stevens, seventh-grade Language Arts Teacher Sarah Peck and seventh-grade Launguage Arts teacher Ashley Jensen, with students Julian Juarez, Anthony Mangram, Cole Holladay, William Misak, Taryn Wilkins, and Owen Bayles. W.C. Schultz Junior High School’s team, coached by W.C. Schultz Librarian Vanessa Ragsdale, placed second with the team of Kirsten McBride, Katelyn Duncan, Adrianna Gaspard, Marlene Ramirez, Alejandra Arroyo, and Sara Richards.
Waller High School held its Name that Book competition earlier in the week and recognized participants at the districtwide Name that Book awards ceremony. Waller High School Librarian Jamie Cox coached the winning high school team with the students Wendy Esquivel, Emalay Caballero, Lizbeth Calderon, Janeth Calderon, and Cristal Sanchez coming in first, and the team of Maria Cruz, Cameron Underwood, Jacqueline Garcia and Destiny Dunsmore placing second.
To close the ceremony and build anticipation for next year’s competition, the librarians concluded the event by announcing the names of the 2017-2018 Name that Book titles and passing out the list so students can begin reading for next year. A special thank you is extended to the competition staff of Lauren Crites, Vanessa Ragsdale, Kelli Schmidt, Lynn Stevens, Rhonda Singh, Melanie Scales, Mindi Lightfoot, Kim Perry, Jamie Cox, Jennifer Hoffpauir, Toni Misak, Christina Godfrey and the campus chaperones.
